Premiership Decade Tributes

Celebrating premierships achieved decade years ago

The Rosanna Cricket Club has achieved numerous premierships and it is appropriate that each year we celebrate those premierships at each decade anniversary.

70 Year Anniversary - 1955-56 - 1st XI

The 1st XI captained by club legend Brian Carlton won the A Grade premiership making it back to back premierships. An interesting historical aspect is that these matches were timeless requiring an outright result to win the premiership. Rosanna made a massive score of 501 in its first innings to set up the victory. Heidelberg responded with 216. A second innings 111 from Rosanna set Heidelberg 396 who fell short with 160. The resounding victory demonstrated the quality of this team.

The Under 14 team captained by Dirk Xanthos went through the season undefeated and claimed back-to-back premierships. The last time that this feat was achieved at this level was in seasons 1981-82 and 82-83. In the Grand Final against Bellfield, the side recorded its lowest score for the season, struggling to a lowly 93. With some good fielding and excellent field placements we soon had the opposition in trouble at 6/48 but some resistance from their lower order batsman and a 7th wicket partnership of 21 saw them close in on our tally of 93. However, with the fall of the 7th wicket, the last 3 wickets fell for the addition of just one run to be dismissed for 70. Steve Jones(3/12) and Luke Anderson (3/32) were our leading wicket takers. Scores: Rosanna 93 defeated Bellfield 70. The side was managed by Hilary Reddrop and coached, for the second year running, by Geoff Wilson and Daniel Thorpe.

The team in batting order was:
Haedar Almatrah (Deputy Vice Captain); Michael Coffey; Dirk Xanthos (Captain); Luke Anderson (Vice Captain); Ross Abedi; David Watson; Steve Jones; Daniel Koop; Kai Fisher; Chris Summers and Scott Crawford

30 Year Anniversary - 1995-96 - U12A

The Under 12 A team captained by Adam Crosthwaite had a sensational year claiming the premiership with two wins from a best of three Finals series. Right from the outset of the season, the boys showed a willingness to learn and improve. Combined with their acceptance of playing the game with a disciplined and responsible attitude meant they rapidly improved and grew in stature as the season progressed. The class of the team was evidenced by the fact that they won 17 out of 18 games played and averaged 114 runs per Innings (versus the opposition 64 runs) – an average winning margin of 50 runs! In the first of the Finals matches, we comfortably, defeated West Heidelberg YCW. James Westmore was outstanding with the ball taking 4/6. Scores: Rosanna 8/128 defeated YCW 90. In the second match we again prevailed. Scores: Rosanna 3/120 defeated YCW 7/103. The side was coached by Peter Waddingham and Rod Webster. For such a young person, the sides Captain, Adam Crosthwaite, showed outstanding leadership, sportsmanship and discipline. It is little wonder that Adam would go on and have a successful First-Class Cricket career as a wicket keeper and hard-hitting middle order batsman!

The boys who played in the winning premiership Team, in alphabetical order were:
Adam Crosthwaite (Captain); Huss Almatrah; Tim Angus; Daniel Kinsalla; Tim Maurer; Ben
